Purple Tea is a new cultivar of the tea family that is only found in the highlands of the Rift Valley in Kenya.  This extraordinary, rare, and most fascinating tea is named after its distinctive, purple-reddish leaf pigmentation associated with very high presence of antioxidants called Anthocyanin. The Kenya Purple tea has beautiful purple leaves and brews a lovely purple hue that intensifies if you add a squeeze of lemon.

Why is it purple?

The leaves are purple because they contain anthocyanin, the same antioxidant found in blueberries, pomegranates, onions, and acai berries. The leaves are slightly withered to create a subtle and natural taste while retaining all of the health benefits. The Kenya Purple tea is much more superior to Green and Black tea due to its higher medicinal properties. It is believed to be a mighty health-boosting antioxidant and has ability to track down free radicals in the body that cause terminal diseases. Anthocyanin is known to fight chronic and degenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s, cancer, diabetes, heart diseases, inflammation, depression, hypertension, and neurological ailments. The purple tea is also known to reduce weight gain due to anthocyanin’s high potency to oxidize fat cells.

Our Baobab Fruit powder originates from Malawi, a landlocked country in south central Africa - a country that ranks among the world's least developed countries - with women-led households being the worst hit.  As we celebrate International Women Day (March 8) and women’s’ History month (March), we thought it was a good time to introduce you to our fearless partner and a tireless advocate for women empowerment in Malawi to talk about the plight of women in Malawi.
